Celebrating Stefan´s first Father´s Day compared to this year´s Fathers Day was a big difference to all of us. Last year we needed Hannah to be awake so we could go for a small walk without using any of her high flow respiratory system and this year we needed Hannah to be asleep to enjoy dinner out. Of course, that didn´t happen so we decided to go out for lunch and she loved it too.
Last year was a bit frightening to leave the house because if Hannah fell asleep while we were walking, that meant that we had to go back fast to our apartment and connect all the high – flow system so Hannah could breathe comfortably and get the pressure of air she needed to breathe while sleeping. ( I will post about her period with sleep apnea in the near future).
This was the first time we felt comfortable going out for a walk after she came back from the NICU and she was already 5 weeks old. It was a hot and humid day in Manhattan but also we wanted our Little Nubecita to get some fresh air feeling confident with the decision to not bring her monitor to check on her oxygen levels. Not only we went for just a couple of minutes out but that also gave us peace to enjoy that moment with her instead of looking at the monitor every 2 seconds.
It was beautiful to have her out looking at all her surroundings, looking at the sky and not think about having to leave fast to the hospital like we did a week before; we were just simply thankful that she was home, with us, growing and in Stefan´s arms for his first Father´s day.
This year, we had the same exact weather as last year. Hot and humid… but this year Hannah was non-stop active, blabbing, smiling, going from one side to the other and making our lives just wonderful.
We could not believe how fast time has passed and how strong she was getting after everything we had been through a year before and again we feel so blessed to have her next to us but this time being completely independent with her breathing, sleeping, eating… everything! We woke up, gave Stefan a card with a picture for him to take to his office, had a lovely breakfast and after getting ready and letting Hannah take her first nap, we decided to go and celebrate to one of Stefan´s favorite restaurant around the area. Hannah behaved beautifully though she´s already in this period where she wants to grab everything so It was a bit of a challenge but we all ended up having a great time and Hannah being pampered by everyone around her at the restaurant.
Last but not least, Happy Father´s day to my sweet Stefan for being our strength, making me a better person learning to have more patience 😉 (that is my weakness), and for always making time to spend as much time as you can with our Little Nubecita.
FYI… she’s crazy about you SUPERDAD!
