We could not believe this was finally happening after 5 weeks. OUR LITTLE NUBECITA WAS COMING HOME!
Like I said before, doctors and nurses at the New York Presbyterian were amazing to us and always on top of everything. Hannah was without a doubt in the best hands. Every morning in the NICU a group of doctors and nurses would come in for “rounds” and would discuss pros and cons, situations we could avoid in a future, sleep tests, etc. But the most important thing was that our little Hannah had to be perfectly stable with her breathing for us to take her home. This was every single morning for 5 weeks. It felt like 3 months.
A good friend of ours always says, “leaving the NICU is like graduating from college”. Every baby has to go through their own checklist, discarding every possibility that you would have never thought and also that helps parents to be secure and confident that when they tell you, “your baby is being discharged” it´s because the baby is at its best!.
By this time, I think I knew my daughters breathing pretty well and that made me feel calm and happy to treat her at home, knowing how to use all the equipments and what to do if something didn’t go as expected. Hannah was doing so much better and doctors said that most likely growing up would help her sleep apnea and hopefully this was just a matter of time till she became stronger and bigger.
We can’t thank enough not only the doctors and nurses but also our whole family and friends that not only came to visit but that also flew from other countries to meet Hannah and to give us the love and support we needed. We couldn’t have done it without you!
WELCOME HOME HANNAH!
